Former NFL Star Signs Contract with WWE

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The next WWE superstar

Following in the footsteps of Rob Gronkowski, another NFL Tight End, Vance McDonald has signed a contract to enter the world of sports entertainment and wrestle in the WWE. McDonald retired from the NFL after eight seasons, four with the San Francisco 49ers and four with the Pittsburgh Steelers. McDonald announced his NFL retirement two months ago on January 22.

On March 31, 2021, WWE officially announced that the next WWE NXT superstar will be Vance McDonald. He will make his in-ring debut on NXT just one short week later - Wednesday, April 7. He'll be taking on WWE 205 Live superstar, August Grey. With more than a 75 lb weight disadvantage, Grey will certainly have his work cut out for him.

30-year old McDonald has had WWE aspirations since he was a young child. He recalls dreaming of teaming up with Triple H to take on the Undertaker and Kane. Now he'll finally have his chance to work side by side with Triple H, who is in charge of WWE's extremely popular wrestling brand, NXT. Weekly viewership of NXT is in the hundreds of thousands and Triple H and his wife Stephanie McMahon anticipate a huge spike in ratings once the former Pittsburgh superstar brings his talents to the squared circle. McDonald has been working on his signature move his whole NFL career, he calls it the "Touchdown Drop." He also has been working on his submission-game because he is aware of Grey's propensity for tapping out from submission holds.

Saying that NXT CEO Triple H is excited is an understatement. McDonald's favorite WWE superstar from his childhood had this to say, "With this new addition to the gold brand, we expect sales of NXT merchandise to skyrocket to Dominik Mysterio type levels. WWE already owns Wednesday night TV. By adding some NFL star power to the best programming on television, there's literally no reason to watch anything else on Wednesday nights."

After signing, McDonald couldn't contain his excitement. He had this to share with his fans, "Look, I'm arguably one of the best Tight Ends in Steelers, maybe even NFL, history. Obviously, I have a massive fan base after practically carrying the team on my back for these last few years. I've heard from a lot of Steelers fans about how much they're going to miss seeing me hold that football up in the end zone. But now they'll be able to see me every Wednesday at 8/7 Central on WWE NXT. I'm doing this for my fans in Steeler Nation who just want more Vance. The Touchdown Drop is here!"

    whale spotted in illinois river

A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri.

While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
