Four States CWD Crackdown

The four states region of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana have joined forces in hopes to eliminate CWD(Chronic Wasting Disease) in the four states region. Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) of mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk (or "wapiti"), moose, and reindeer. As of 2016, CWD had been found in members of the deer family only. First recognized as a clinical "wasting" syndrome in 1967 in mule deer in a wildlife research facility in northern Colorado, USA, it was identified as a TSE in 1978 and has spread to free-ranging and captive populations in 23 US states and two Canadian provinces. CWD is typified by chronic weight loss leading to death. No relationship is known between CWD and any other TSEs of animals or people. Until now CWD has not been identified in the four stages region, but on September 5th a doe was found dead in Northwest Bowie County, Texas near Red River dead in a crop field. The deer was sent off for testing which confirmed the presence of CWD. The most recent case was discovered when a doe was harvested in Southwest Miller County, Arkansas near the Louisiana border on October 2nd. Due to the proximity of both CWD cases near state lines, the state wildlife agencies have joined forces with new rules and regulations for the 2018-2019 deer season in the Four States area. Below are the counties by state that the new regulations apply.

    whale spotted in illinois river

A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri.

While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
