Storied High School Football Team From Massillon, Ohio Changing Sports Teams Name

Massillon, Ohio – A source from The Independent, Massillon’s local newspaper, has revealed that their local school district has received a cease and desist letter from Alan Avila, Assistant Counsel for the Major League Baseball franchise Detroit Tigers. The Detroit club has a trademark on the ‘Tigers’ name and image for sports use, and started a campaign last year to eliminate all unauthorized use of the trademark. Massillon has one of Ohio’s most storied football programs and is the nation’s winningest.

The Massillon school board held a private meeting which included the superintendent, unnamed school staff, coaches and program benefactors. The group voted unanimously, but reluctantly, that at a cost of over $1.5mm to change the ‘Tiger’ name would be less expensive than to fight this battle in court. The redesign and change of team uniforms, changing team colors and repainting the stadium to the new colors and new logos are the most costly of all needed changes.

The graduating class of 2018 will be the last of the school’s to graduate as ‘Tigers’. Other names considered but rejected at the board meeting was ‘Tygers’ which is used at Mansfield Sr. HS., and ‘Tiggers’ which may be an infringement on the animated TV program ‘Winnie the Pooh’. The school board will soon be making an announcement which will include a ‘Name the Team & Color’ contest which will be released to graduates and supporters of the school.

    whale spotted in illinois river

A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri.

While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
