Mystery of the MINWR

The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge attracts thousands of visitors a year to view its diverse population of wildlife such as hundreds of bird species, alligators and bobcats. Recent closure of popular refuge roads have left many asking questions as to why. Officials cite hurricane damage and budget cuts as the reasons... however, an image has recently surfaced that is fueling rampant speculation that the real reason may be the existence of a previously unseen species that is now inhabiting parts of the refuge.

The above photo appears to have captured a new hominid species in its natural habitat and was allegedly taken along a dike road in the refuges' Peacock's Pocket area.

While the creature's existence may be a shocking revelation to the outside world, it seems to be just another one of the wonders of "the marsh" to some locals familiar with the area.

We showed the image to local fisherman Evad Koorbloh, who rather matter-of-factly said "Oh yeah - that's the Marsh Monkey. I once saw him catch a redfish about 35 inches long - helped him land it."

When asked how he thought such a creature could go undetected for so long, he said "Have you seen some of the people that fish out here? He doesn't really stand out much."

Koorbloh also added "I hear he's been showing up at the beaches around here more lately... and that he makes a helluva cornhole board."

So for most the mystery will remain, but for some he's just the "Marsh Monkey".

    whale spotted in illinois river

A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri.

While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
