TALBOT COUNTY (Easton, MD) - A routine traffic stop turned into a drug interrogation for an elderly couple in Talbot County. Annetta Lewis, 58, never expected that her day would end the way it did.
Annetta and her husband had just visited their grandchild in Preston and were headed back home to Easton when a Talbot County Sheriff's deputy stopped them. Mr. Eugene Lewis, Sr. and Mrs. Annetta Lewis is pictured in the photograph above.
“It just seemed a little unusual because we're not speeding and we're always careful drivers,” said Mrs.Lewis.
Lewis and her husband were told their windows were too dark. The deputy checked the tint and found it was not within the legal limit. “I thought that was awfully strange since these are factory tinted Kia windows and it seems so peculiar that someone would stop you for something like that,” said Annetta Lewis. It turns out the window tinting was just the beginning of their troubles.
The deputy told the couple to get out of their car and then he began to question them about smuggling drugs.
“I don't honestly know what the stereotype looks like for a heroin smuggler, but I don't think a couple of senior citizens driving a car really looks like we're much of a threat to anybody,” said Eugene Lewis, Sr.
The interrogation went on for more than 20 minutes in the cold with the couple standing on the side of the road. It was an uncomfortable experience for Eugene Lewis, considering he just had a kidney transplant.
WBOC questioned the Talbot County Sheriff's Office about the traffic stop. They told us they have counseled the deputy and are in the process of reviewing the incident.
“Our deputy is trained to take an extra step,” said Chief Deputy Joe Gamble. “He is actually attached to our narcotics unit and he is primarily support for them. However, when he is out on the road and not supporting them, he conducts traffic stops. His primary function is to look for criminal activity.”
Gamble admits the deputy may have taken the questioning too far, but as far as the couple is concerned, the damage has been done.
“I tell you what, I respect the law less today than I did before,” said Eugene Lewis, Sr.
The couple told us they got a call from the Sheriff's office after we began asking questions about the incident. They were told a formal investigation had been opened and they should know the outcome in a few days.
Anyone with information about the situation should call the Talbot County Sheriff's Office at (410) 822-1020.

Anna, 26, of New York City, DC was in the middle of an argument with a colleague when her temper got so out of control, it formed a small black hole, which demolished the vast majority of her neighborhood. "I just couldn't take it anymore, and unleashed my forces at the person who was irritating me. I had no idea the energy of my rage could cause such destruction," says Anna. Despite the ruination her anger has caused, Anna says she has no regrets. "I actually wish I knew I had this ability sooner!" Anna laughs. "There are a lot of people and things I could have eradicated from my life in this way."

whale spotted in illinois river
A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri.
While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
