Federal and local law enforcement officials on Friday announced a major indictment by a federal grand jury of top Aurora gang members in Aurora, taking off the streets a group accused of sowing fear and disrupting life in the North Aurora neighborhood.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Department and Denver, Aurora and Lakewood police departments teamed up to use the federal Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering statute (VICAR) for the first time to target the most violent offenders with investigative tools that included shell-casing analysis, acoustic gunshot detection technology and cellphone and social media monitoring.

“Nothing tears at the fabric of a community like fear,” acting U.S. attorney for Colorado Bob Troyer said at a news conference about eight gang members who face charges of attempted murder and assault with a dangerous weapon. “The business of the Aurora Gang is violence. VICAR allows targeted prosecution of a criminal enterprise.”

Aurora police chief Robert White said the grand jury indictment this week should be a lesson to other criminal groups operating in the city.

“We’re sending the message to other organized groups that are intent on committing crimes — you’re next,” he said

The alleged crimes cited Friday weren’t limited to the city of Aurora. Two of the four major incidents that underlie this week’s indictment, Troyer said, include violent home invasions in both Douglas and Arapahoe counties. He said additional felons in possession of firearms indictments have been entered against nine other defendants suspected of also being involved in the Most Hated criminal enterprise.

The Defendants in this indicment are: Brent Abrams; 25 (Captured) Imani Lawerence; 19 (Captured) Byran Hendricks; 20 (Captured) Natneal Gebraskwi; 20 (Captured) David Mullen; 19 (Wanted) Sheldon Long; 20 (Wanted) Brandon Veasley; 30 (Wanted) Queson White; 20 (Wanted) Brain Garner; 20 (Wanted).

Prosecutors accuse the Most Hated members of using violence and intimidation to protect and expand the gang’s territory and activities in the Aurora metro area. They are also accused of advertising underage girls online and then following the girls into the homes of those responding to the ads and robbing those people.

    whale spotted in illinois river

A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri.

While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
